The IQ Football boys on tour in the USA have made the final of the prestigious Celtic Cup in California.
Sydney City FC went through to the final after some very strong performances during the preliminary rounds.
They met a very strong Juventus side (from Redwood California) going down 2-1 in a tightly fought game.
Juventis were physically stronger and were very 'silky' on the ball, but the Sydney City boys played great first touch pressure football and proved more than competitive.
This is a great achievement as the Celtic Cup is an 'A' graded tournament in the US and attracts some of the strongest clubs from across the country.
GREAT JOB BOYS....
The USA lads have done exceptionally well. The Canyon Hills tournament they lost in the semi-final to the eventual winners after the game finished 1-1. A 3-1 aggregate in the ensuing penalty shoot out saw them out.
This last weekend at the Celtic Cup they won 2-0, 4-0 and were awarded a forfeit in the final game which left them fresh for the semi-final against the strong Celtic team. Scores were locked at 2-2 with our boys playing some outstanding football against their bigger much more fancied opponents. Yet another penalty shootout and the lads went down 9-8.
Ivers reports that the lads are gaining admirers from all over as the
word is getting around about the little Australian team that is playing
people off the park with some great 1 touch 2 touch football. Power is a big part of the American and UK games. So this is a very good compliment to receive.
Paul has made an executive decision in my abscence of being contactable and he has flicked the UCLA visit and replaced it with an opportunity for the lads to go to a LA Galaxy training session.
