The philosophy of the IQ Football Academy is to create a competitive environment as opposed to a competition environment whereby the emphasis is placed on individual athlete development. The primary focus in a competitive environment is on individual technical development whereby the individual athlete strives to improve their individual performance gauged against their peers. Thus an emphasis is placed on individual technical improvement. At the IQ Football Academy there is no mention of winning as this is out of the control of the individual athlete. But we are concerned with the process, as how well the player performs, is totally in the control of the individual. That is, if all athletes on the field of play perform to their full potential then this increases the chance of being successful; winning as a consequence of development! As opposed to development as a consequence of winning. The 'IQ' in IQ Football Academy represents 'intensity and quality' which are the key ingredients in developing smarter faster players. The training programs are based on the three speeds in football: (i) speed of movement; (ii) speed of ball; and, (iii) speed of thought. Speed of thought controls the other two speeds. At the IQ Football Academy we attempt to increase the speed of thought of players by developing their technical ability to a point where the player does not need to concentrate 100% on the control and distribution of the ball. Their first touch should be that good that it becomes an automatic learned behaviour and is second nature to them. First nature has to be the decision. The skill in football is being able to select the correct and then perform the correct technique when under pressure for the benefit of the team. This is why technique is paramount in our programs. |
